Massage Therapy
Holistica Wellness Clinic offers several types of Swedish massage, including: deep tissue, relaxation, pregnancy, sports and lymphatic drainage. Every massage is tailored to the specific needs of the client after a discussion/health history intake and assessment. The client can choose a whole body treatment, or a specific area of concern. This type of massage includes the use of oil/lotion for easy glide over the skin. Clear communication is always maintained between the client and the therapist to ensure a comfortable and effective treatment.
Types of Massage Therapy
Deep Tissue:
While usually a full body massage therapy, deep tissue focuses on and addresses the tight/tense muscles that are very hard to get to relax. These muscles usually respond well to deeper pressure. In most cases the practitioner applies pressure with the forearm, while finger tips, palms and thumbs are also used. Deep, but sensitive pressure is applied by the practitioner to affect change in the muscle tissue. It should not be painful.
Relaxation:
This type of massage therapy is less focused on a particular area of the body and the aim is usually to reduce any knots or tension and reduce stress. It is also used for prevention and maintenance.
Matsu:
Matsu is a Combo of Massage and Shiatsu therapy.
Oil/lotion is used and the therapist switches seamlessly from one technique to the other depending what is most needed in the area being worked on or the desire of the client.
See also Shiatsu Therapy on this website for further information.
Sports:
Most people would get this type of massage therapy for sports injuries or to enhance/tone the body in preparation for a particular sport. The whole appointment may be spent in the particular area of concern and sometimes deeper pressure is used. Golfers, runners and tennis players are just a few examples of people who would benefit from this type of massage therapy.
Lymphatic Drainage Massage:
The therapist uses a light circular motion with no oil on the skin. It doesn’t engage the muscle tissue at all. If the client wishes, a short regular massage therapy can follow this treatment. The benefits are, reduced swelling, post surgery or edema. Also, because the lymph system is part of the immune system, it is believed that this treatment will help immunity and detoxification.
